Resolving to be still can be an incredibly taxing experience for many people. Yin develops and teaches an incredible stillness in our bodies through surrendering past a space of comfort- not a forced space- but a space where the stretch develops on its own and a deeper intuitive sense of tenacity & mental strength begins to glow.
To allow your body to let go and release the control & tightness we hold in our limbs, muscles, organs & mind is a fantastic journey and the stillness of YIN means theres nowhere to hide. We watch, feel, listen & learn so much more about ourselves.
“Once we have find the edge, we settle into the pose. We wait without moving. This is our resolution, our commitment. No matter what urges arise in the mind, no matter what sensations arise in the body, we remain still.”
If you are new to YIN YOGA please see our website for more information on the practice.
Our practices are grounding, centuring and extremely meditative. Building awareness of tensions in the body and learning to physically release them by actively surrendering into a stretch and let gravity take you rather than muscular control is a highly rewarding, intuitive and effective skill to develop. When you become aware of tension on the mat, you become aware of tension off the mat. You’ll learn effective ways to recognise early signs of stress and ill health in the mind and body.
A brilliant practice for everyone, anytime, but particularly suited to Winter months and protecting the joints and bones from the cold weather.YIN will support the joints and help protect the body from repetitive strains or injury.
Please contact me in advance for advice or modifications throughout the practice if you have any injuries or sensitivities in the body; if you are pregnant or have hyperextension in any joints.
“Stillness of the body … like a majestic mountain
Stillness of the breath … like a calm mountain lake
Stillness of the mind … like the deep blue of the sky”
